For those of us here in Australia with a Resmed Airsense 10 that uses the Telstra 2G network for reporting I have contacted Resmed re the 2G network closure on the 1st of December. What happens after that? Firmware upgrade ? Hardware upgrade? Mine is under warranty, but for those of you who are not covered what next?

When does the "tired" feeling go away?

Greetings all, can't tell you how helpful this board has been. I'm a newly registered follower that had tried a CPAP 8 years ago with an AHI of 15 but just couldn't get used to the full face mask. Ended up using a dental appliance since then but it just wasn't helping anymore. Have now been diagnosed with an AHI of 29 and just began therapy with a DreamStation Auto CPAP using AirFit P10 nasal pillows and chin strap. Have been able to tolerate it completely for the first 4 nights. One thing that I hoped would be better is the tired feeling I have throughout the day. A couple days have been better but a couple haven't felt any different. Feed back from the DreamStation is showing an AHI of around 2.0 every night and 100% mask fit. Was wondering how long it might take to start feeling better more consistently. Also have been using the PR DreamMapper site but notice that a lot of folks seem to be using SleepyHead. Will have to give that a try.
Thanks again for all the great advice on the board, it has helped immensely.

Dream Station Settings

My doctor ordered me a sleep study which revealed severe sleep apnea. I now have a Philips Dream Station and the clinician said, probably because I had an at-home sleep study done, that it was set on automatic between 4 and 20. I have not slept well since I got this machine nearly a month ago. The #4 setting seems too low and the 20 is like gale force winds that keep me up. When I asked the clinician to change it he said it was a prescription and the doctor had to change it. Now my doctor says I have to go a chest specialist to have the prescription changed??? My husband researched online and it said the ramp is supposed to adjust to when I need more air or not, but all it seems to do is start at 4 and go up to 20 and stays there which is much too high and even wakes my husband up with the machine humming at full force. It stays at that level until I hit the ramp button which starts the process all over again. This means I'm up every 2-3 hours hitting the ramp button when it reaches too high of a state. Isn't it supposed to adjust up AND down? Someone please advise us as to what we can do. BTW I have a full face mask as I am a mouth breather.

Different software - Different results

Hello,

Fairly new to the whole apnea/cpap world. Been quite overwhelming and complicated at times - as many of you likely are aware.

I have a Philips Dreamstation machine with a Resmed Quattro Air full face mask. My question is regarding software results.

I use both the Philips Respironics DreamMapper (mysleepmapper.com), software and also SleepyHead. I get different results each night between the two softwares.

For instance, last night DreamMapper gave a number of 4.6 AHI whereas SleepyHead gave a number of 3.53 AHI. The dreamstation machine itself displayed a 4.6. I have no idea why the discrepancy.

The only thing that I can imagine is that I am using a non-Philips mask. The machine has options for mask type, but only gives options (1 thru 5), for Philips masks. When contacted, Philips said they don't know the option since they only know their masks. Resmed wasn't sure so they suggested I turn the setting to 'off' - which is an option.

The mask type may have nothing to do with the discrepancy in readings, but I have no idea what else would cause this.

Any ideas?

Thank you.

Friend in need in Cuba

I just returned from a visit to Cuba. I discovered that a friend of mine who lives on the eastern end of the island has sleep apnea. His wife is a nurse, and she tells me that he quits breathing all the time in his sleep and it worried them both. There is no such thing as a sleep lab in Cuba, nor are Cpap machines available, as far as I know. At least he has never heard of such a thing. They are lucky if they can get the occasional bottle of tylenol. He wakes up a lot with headaches and is often fatigued during the day.

Anyway, I have a spare CPAP machine that I don;t use (I was prescribed a newer BiPap machine). Do I dare give it to him and let him find his own levels? What advice would you give me for him?

Secondly, I would have a to find a face mask for him. He is a mouth breather.

Where cn I find masks at a good price in Toronto, Canada? And can one just buy a mask, sight unseen, and hope it fits his face and can he make it work?

Any advice for this situation?

Mouth slips below mask

Hello. I have been using a Simplus full face mask with the RedMed AirSense 10 for a couple weeks now, and I find I have an issue each night. I fall asleep, and then at some point I wake up in the night and the mask is halfway off my face... that is, the mask has slipped upwards and my mouth is open with my lips straddling the bottom seal. The air is then very loud and I wake up and adjust the mask, putting it in its proper place. But then I rinse and repeat as the same thing happens several times in the night.

I would really like to remedy this, as I'm sure I'm not getting the proper CPAP therapy if half of my mouth is below the mask!

During the day, I almost exclusively breathe through my nose, and when I'm in bed before I fall asleep I breathe through my nose... but I obviously open my mouth up in my sleep.

Need help bigtime

Had a sleep study done about 8 years ago and they said I had mild sleep apnia and told to wear a tee shirt with tennis balls sewed into the back to force me onto my side and end the snoring.

Now, don't have health insurance to do another sleep study. Bought the Philips DreamStation Auto CPAP from Amazon. Bought the Sleep Weaver cloth nasal Pap Mask.

Using info that I have found on-line to do the initial settings. Bought this machine since it automatically sets the needed pressure so I figured I could skip the professional figuring it out for me.

If anyone is familiar with the "Provider Mode settings" I could use some help. Seems that I am having trouble exhaling through the machine. All other info and tips greatly appreciated.

Resmed S9 Escape, loud noise on inhale

Hi everyone, I did see some of the previous noise about inhale noises, but this is not a whistling. the exhale sound sounds just like it always did, but in the last week, whenever I inhale, it sounds like a vacuum cleaner.

so, what it is, is the fan gets really loud and sped up, like when wind blows through a fan and makes it spin faster than it was. I called Bennett medical, which is the company i get my supplies and originally got the machine through. though they have not returned my call as it is the holiday weekend.

I am using a Resmed S9 escape with humidifier and slimline heated hose and a nasal mask. nothing has changed in over a year as far as masks, hoses or humidifier parts (yes i clean and replace what needs to be when they need to be) I do travel with the machine, but always use the bag and ensure it is safe. it has been over a month since i last had to move it.

as a computer tech and often automobile mechanic, I can only suspect that something is wearing out, or that some kind of bypass or something has plugged up. I have seen that there is a flapper valve, and I'm not sure which direction the valve works or if it is before or after the pump itself.

I have had the machine since oct 2012 and from the setup settings i can see that I have put in close to 15000 hours on the machine. While i have been able to sleep with it as loud as it is (its over powering the music i listen to, that was to cover up the soft exhale noise) it is very disconcerting and does cause me to take longer to get to sleep.

does anyone have any ideas?

ResMed Airsense 10 Quit Working

I have had a ResMed Airsense 10 since August 4th. Now it's November 25th and it will not stay on. It began acting up 4 nights ago, reporting one night that I had slept 2.4 hours, another .11. Now it shuts itself off within 5 seconds of turning on.

Any ideas? I keep it clean and have never moved it. It's a complete shock to have this happen. It's Thanksgiving weekend and there is no help available until Monday at the earliest.

Thanks!

Question: sound level on Resmed S9 WITHOUT humidifier, compared to Remstar 560

$

Quick background. Have Respironics, PRS1-560. About to take a Christmas trip, so will be traveling with my CPAP machine for the first time. Don't need the humidifier and want to save space anyway with packing. I've found, however, that the Respironics is quite a bit noisier without the humidifier than with. The increased noise is obviously coming through the hose, so the humidifier makes the noise I hear much more subdued. The machine itself is a bit bulky too, IMHO.

I need to get a backup machine anyway, so I was thinking of buying a used Resmed S9 through Supplier #2. I've been reading a lot and it seems that the consensus is the S9 is quieter, in general, than the PRS1-560.

My question is: is the Resmed S9 WITHOUT humidifier louder (to the user, not spouse) than the S9 with humidifier attached? If so, how much? Is it about the same as the Remstar? Significantly quieter?

If anyone wants to chime in on the S8 too, that's cool. Not interested in Airsense 10. For home use, I'm actually quite satisfied with my Respironics ... as long as I keep the humidifier attached.

Thanks!

Auto ramp: Do you use, why or why not.

Just for fun, I tried the auto ramp feature last night. With my pressure requirements so low, the ramp feature was of little value. But, I tried it last night with very strange results. My AHI was .4 (yea!). Best night sleep ever.

I am wondering if letting the machine decide when to start therapy is a good thing. I hope it is not a one time thing. It took less than 10 minutes but I never knew when therapy started. I even wondered if it started at all.

One good night, now leak issues?

Hi everyone,

I'm new to CPAP (6 days in) and I can tell it's making a little difference, though one of the nights was the best sleep I've ever had in my entire life. I have been experimenting with the pressure and different settings and how to set the tube up near my bed. I just want to be able to sleep like I did on 11.23, but I think there are some weird leak issues going on. I swear last night my mouth didn't open and the tube was perfectly set up by being tied to the top of my beds headboard.

Using the DreamStation Auto CPAP with the Dreamwear Nasal Cushions

Here are some sleepyhead graphs:

Having trouble posting them.. lol

I have had turbinate reduction done, almost 2 months now. This greatly reduced my sleep hours from 10:30 - 12 hrs (12hours a lot of the time), to 9 -10:30 (9:30 - 10hrs mostly)

Also, I'm 24, male, 170lbs, 5'9"
I used to swear I don't snore, but I've woken up snoring out of my nose a few times (I know it wasn't a mask leak)

manual ramping?

On the Resmed airsense 10 I can't find any way to ramp down the pressure manually. I used to be able to do this on my old machine when returning back to bed after a nature break. Is it possible with this one?

I was diagnosed with chronic obstructive sleep apnea eight years ago. I've hatd a Resmed AirSense 10 for about two years, and at the end of the sleep session it shows how many apnea events per hour occurred. ANYWAY, two weeks ago I noticed how good I felt one morning, when I got home from work I saw my sleep report was 1.4 events / hour. I was trying to think what I did - ate the previous evening that may have lent itself to this. After decidedly pinpointing the factor, I kept doing it every night until now. I also use it in my smoothies in the morning. I just had some about 30 minutes before my afternoon nap, all which have been ZERO events per hour - which never never never happens. And one day I did not use it in the morning / before my afternoon nap, and my report was 3.4 events/hour. With that being said, I think it's safe to say the pomegranate is a miracle (for me). I eat 1/2 of one at night, and follow up with a very small 4 oz of pure pomegranate juice. In the morning I put about 6-8oz in my smoothie, and its effects seem to last throug the afternoon. I urge anyone suffering from sleep apnea to try this, and pray it helps you as it has me! Know that I am relatively young (44) and the only med I take is ONE for high blood pressure, so make sure there is no potential interaction with any medicine you may be taking. Let me know!?!

Need ResMed Lumis 150 ST or ST-A

My doctor wants to put me on an iVaps machine with a backup rate, NIV, for my hypoventilation syndrome.

ResMed introduced a product called the Resmed Lumis 150 ST, or ResMed Lumis 150 ST-A Model in April 2015.

Can anyone tell me if either of these are available in the United States yet, and if not when it will become available here?

My doctor wants this particular machine because my hypoventilation syndrome seems to respond best to an AutoEpap device, which is a feature the Lumis 150 ST has.

Does anyone know where I can order the ResMed Lumis 150 ST? Or tell me when ResMed plans to roll it out in the US?

ResMed announced the new machine back in April 2015, and I have seen a couple members here mention that they have acquired one.

If anyone can respond here or PM me with availability, or a source that can ship to California, I can provide a prescription from my doctor...

Thank you!
